Grantmaking Process

Application Guidelines

  • Application submissions must be postmarked by January 31st or July 31st for consideration by the Foundation during our Spring or Fall grant cycles.
  • Applicants should complete and submit the application form available here:

  • Applicants should limit their proposal to 3-4 pages.
  • The Foundation makes one-year grants; the size of a typical grant is $3,000-$5,000. Private companies doing research in orphan and medical diseases may be considered for grants between $10,000-$20,000.

Eligibility

  • Grants are typically made to IRS 501(c)(3) organizations.
  • Individuals associated with a 501(c)(3) organization working within our areas of interest (e.g., a musician, artist, painter, student with a project) may be considered for funding.
  • Private companies doing research in orphan and medical diseases can be considered for funding.

Restrictions

Please note the following limitations on our grantmaking:

  • Religious organizations are not eligible for funding.
  • The Foundation does not provide funding for capital programs or equipment.
  • The Foundation does not make multi-year grants. Where the initial grant has been successful in meeting its goals and objectives, the Foundation may consider making another competitive grant in the following year upon an adequate showing of need.

  • Application submissions must be postmarked by January 31st or July 31st for consideration by the Foundation during our Spring or Fall grant cycles.
  • Applications with later postmarks may be considered during the following grant cycle
  • The Foundation will only consider complete applications submitted by mail.
  • Applications by email will not accepted.
  • All grants are made without consideration of race, religion, ethnicity, and are made annually on a competitive basis consistent with the Mission Statement of the Mackler-Goding Foundation, to appropriate organization and individuals within the United States of America.

Grantee Reporting

  • Grantees are required to submit a 1-2 page grant report assessing the success/failure, challenges/opportunities met in achieving the goals of their grant.
  • Grant reports are due within 2 months of the end of the grant period.
  • Grantees may not apply for a new grant until they have submitted the previous grant report.
  • Please note: the Foundation may share grantee reports on its website (with confidential information removed).
